Portable Appliance Testing

Based in Warrington, Cheshire and trading as RTA PAT Testing we provide businesses within the locality with a electrical inspection service. Mark is a qualified PAT Tester per the City and Guilds 2377-11, Level 3 Award which is based on best practise as defined in The IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. He has also completed the Pat Testing Expert course which is more practical in application.

Why test?

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state:

As maybe necessary to prevent danger, systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger. Reg. 4(2).

Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and good repair. Reg. 5.

Therefore periodic in-service inspection and testing (PAT Testing) following guidance in the Code of Practice enables employers, landlords and the self-employed to demonstrate due diligence in relation to safety. Electric shock and fires arising from faulty equipment can be fatal! Your insurance company may well demand testing as part of the terms and conditions of your policy, if you don't test you may invalidate a claim.

The Inspection:

RTA will inspect and then test your workplace equipment with a modern PAT Tester including opening plugs and checking their compliance. Incorrect plugs or fuses will be replaced. Equipment will be labelled as "PASS" Faulty equipment will be labelled "FAIL" and taken out of service. The responsible person will be notified. We will endeavour to keep workplace disruption to a minimum. If necessary we will consider inspection out of hours. We will also inspect microwaves for any dangerous leakage and label accordingly. The customer will be supplied with a list of the equipment tested and the results, along with recommended re-inspection dates.

November 2012: RTA has just run a PTLLS course for Health & Safety Professionals from Morris & Spottiswood building company. Further news this month we can now also offer PTLLS at Level 4 via HABC.

June 2011 RTA has been through a CIEH Audit and has achieved 100% compliance with the CIEH standards as a registered centre.

RTA Has been working with Warrington Borough Council to provide First Aid at Work training.

RTA have been delivering a number of First Aid courses for Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust at their Runcorn Training Centre.

RTA is working with Northwich Education Improvement Partnership to provide training in First Aid in Cheshire, i.e. delivering First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid in Northwich schools in 2011.

For several years RTA has been providing First Response courses for the Scout Association and Girl Guiding.

December - January 2011. We are working with the Skills Construction Centre in Kirkham, Lancashire to provide them with PTLLS trainer qualifications., now all qualified.

November 2010 The UK Resuscitation Council has published new Basic Life Support guidelines. There have been some minor changes to CPR our courses have been updated to reflect this.
